Inspired by the Dodecanese islands of Greece, my project celebrates their nature and history. Kos, one of the largest of the islands, is known in Greek Mythology as the sacred land of Asclepius, the God of healing and it was also the home of Hippocrates (from the Hellenistic age) who was known as the ‘Father of modern medicine’. I have visited the remains of the Asklepion, a hospital built to honour him the God of healing, Asclepius. Influenced by this, I wanted my project to reflect the island’s history of wellness by creating a vibrant Spring/Summer collection that showcases how important nature and the outdoors are for our wellbeing, reminding people to pause in an environment that allows you to reset. The islands, in particular Kos, are a second home for me and somewhere I feel relaxed and content, therefore I want my designs to embody this positive energy, blending historical elements with modern day Greece.
